What is Reiki? And its origin?

Reiki is an energy-based healing technique that was created by Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk. As he retreated for 21 days to the holy mountain Kurama, 10 km out of Kyoto, he had a life-changing experience that lead him to discover Reiki. He founded his first Reiki clinic and school in Tokyo in 1922, and taught Reiki to several Masters. The Reiki healing method has been taught from Masters to students since then.

What does the word “Reiki” mean?

The word Reiki means Universal Life Energy – and if flows through all living things. However, sometimes this energy doesn’t flow nicely anymore, because of physical, emotional and/or mental blockages or diseases. A Reiki treatment encourages a healthy flow of energy in the body, it lowers stress and activates healing.

What happens during a Reiki treatment?

During a Reiki treatment, the patient lays down on a table, fully clothed, and is covered by a blanket. Practitioners place their hands in a specific order on or just above the patient’s body, to activate energy healing. Unlike massage, a Reiki session does not involve any form of physical manipulation, and no private parts are touched. It is common to enter a deep state of relaxation during a treatment, or to even fall asleep, and that’s totally fine.

How long does a Reiki treatment last for?

A Reiki treatment usually lasts about 50 minutes, it might be less or more, depending on the patient’s need for healing, which can only be felt by the practitioner during the treatment.
